Ayurvedic Medicine Basic Intensive 
Nov. 30, Dec. 1, 2, 7-9

What You Will Learn 

​The purpose of this course is to introduce basic concepts which explain the world view and the workings of Ayurvedic medicine, and to gain a beginning overview of the field including definitions of health, Ayurvedic anatomy and physiology; causes and symptoms of imbalances, and the development of disease.

​You will also gain a beginning understanding of the basic elements of the Ayurvedic toolkit: lifestyle, diet, therapeutic Yoga , panchakarma, and herbology.  Modern traditional research on properties of foods and herbs will be added as appropriate.
 

Each day you will also be guided by Maetreyii Ma in a deeply relaxing set of yoga and partake in a delicious vegetarian lunch.

Overview of the Course


Part I:  Ayurvedic Principles and Skills for Assessment
(Day 1) 3-9 pm
  1. Introductory Overview of the History and Philosophical Basis of Ayurveda.
  •  Where do we come from?  Samkhya: Ayurveda and Yoga’s  explanation.
  • The Concept of Tridosha in nature, in the cycles of human life, and in individual constitutions.
  • Establishing our healthy baseline:  Assessing Prakrti:  1) Observation of ourselves and others, 2) History
  •  3) Questioning
 
(Day 2) 10-6:30pm      
  1. Ayurvedic Anatomy and Physiology: Dosha, Dhatu, Mala, Agni, Ojas, Tejas, Prana, Srotas, Marmani
  2. Vikrti I. : Factors which provoke doshas, symptoms of deficiency and excess.
  3. Pulse Diagnosis Vikriti II: Agni:  The Basis of Health, and Aam: the Beginning of Illness. Lifestyle and Dietary factors which create aam.  Tongue diagnosis.
  4.  Vikrti III:  Causes of Illness, Stages of Development of Illnesses, and times to Intervene (Kriya Kala)
  5. Assessing Vikrti: medical history, symptoms, observation, pulse, tongue.
  6. .Distinguishing between Vikrti and Prakrti
            
Part II:  Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle 
(Day 3) 10-6:30 pm
  1. Personal and Family Health: Ayurvedic Diet and Nutrition: Eating for Prakrti and Vikriti;  the six tastes, and how to modify dishes to change the doshic dominance.
  2. Daily and Seasonal Routines for Health and how to adjust for different climates and different chronotypes
  3. Periodic Cleansing: What is Panchakarma and why is it Practiced?
  4. Yoga Therapies. Subtle Body anatomy. Yoga Practices and the koshas; Yoga Practices and the doshas.  Pranayama and meditation practices for different constitutions and seasons.

Medicinal Foods and Herbs
December 7,8,9

Part III:  Tools for Chikitsa:  Foods and Herbs as Medicine

(Day 1) 3-9 pm
  1. Energetic and Medicinal properties of selected foods, including modern nutritional research; special preparations for health
(Days 2, 3) 10-6:30 pm
  1. Principles of Ayurvedic Herbology/ Pharmacology: survey of approx 40 common herbs; home remedy applications and formulations
  2. Constructing Your Personal Ayurvedic Formulation

 If for some reason you need to cancel the workshop we will refund the full amount 
30 days prior to workshop and a partial refund of the amount if notified by Nov. 25th.

Any class fees that are not returned can be used toward another workshop at a later date.
All deposits are non-refundable but we will happily apply them toward another workshop or class within a year from that date.
