The Fundamental Principles of Prout
The Progressive Utilization Theory, or Prout, is a socio-economic strategy for the development of a society which has the potential to allow human beings to progress to their fullest capabilities physically, mentally and spiritually. It is a theory which incorporates localized economic development, cultural enrichment and centralized control of political affairs.
Prout uses the tenets of neo-humanism, stating that all beings are part of one Divine expression, and thus none should be treated unkindly. All must be respected for their innate potential, and given a conducive environment for their development. Thus in Progressive Utilization Theory all beings are treated with respect and dignity.
Economic and political institutions are seen as vehicles to further the development of all people in such a way that the environment and creatures of this world also prosper, building systems which foster spiritual ideals, human treatment, and human potential.
Prout promotes collective decision making, cooperative farming, world government, maximum use of human potential, and limits on the accumulation of wealth. While Prout advocates reward of individual initiative, it sees excess accumulation in the hands of a few as a detriment to the collective welfare, and thus proposes limits on accumulation.
"Humanitarian love, a reverence for all living beings, and a deep respect for the uniqueness of each person and of each being - these are the foundations, the cornerstones, of a universal human society. Such a society will have as its goal the promotion of the welfare of all of its members in all spheres, the full development of human potential and the promotion of universalism. As the result, human society will become one world family, and there will be full appreciation of the diversity and cultural uniqueness of all of the different regions and cultural backgrounds without the need of one group to diminish or exploit another in order to maintain its dignity. When human beings build a society based upon these values which will allow the full development of its members, then they may claim they have a truly human society, not merely a gathering of individuals all striving to achieve their individual ends at any cost. The Progressive Utilization Theory is given as a method for developing this true human society."
